 End Notes

“Theatre contains a multitude of worlds, each requiring a unique set of creative and esoteric skills. These separate spheres of expertise combine and fuse, as a string of notes become a melody, and melodies intertwine to create a symphony. In this way, theatre creates a synergy – a result greater than the sum of its parts – a harmonious, living production,” (Shenan Arts, 2018).

As always, no words can begin to express the deep gratitude I feel to the many individuals who have come together to make this work possible.  It is a privilege to collaborate with a team of such talented and dedicated professionals and students who share a passion for the stage.  Our collective goal is that for a few hours you will escape reality and transcend to an alternate world where life is enchanting, obstacles seem impossible, and life is both heartbreaking and heroic.

FAME is the original High School Musical, but it doesn’t shy away from the real life pressures facing teens in the modern age. This story places the struggles of youth culture on a collision course with the traditional education system. Based on the real performing arts school and actual events that produced stars such as Jennifer Aniston, Robert De Niro, Nicki Minaj, and Liza Minelli – FAME explores the themes of first love, gender identity, learning disabilities, and substance abuse. As we navigate four years of high school through the eyes of the students in the story, we see them grow, change, and experience heartbreaking loss for the first time.  While this musical carries some difficult themes, the story maintains its relevance because the message endures. It’s about the importance that creativity and the performing arts play in our lives. And we’re all for that here! It’s about working hard to achieve that dream and about accepting that the path is not always an easy or sure one. It's about knowing hard work is rewarded in the end.  In fact, the harder the work and the rougher the ride, the greater the reward.

The majority of our seniors have spent four years in our Performing Arts pathways.  They can connect so well to the characters in FAME.  Each is a unique individual discovering and pursuing their goals.  Our students have earned this moment in the spotlight and never shy away from the “hard work” necessary to achieve their dreams. I am so proud of them and their sense of commitment and community. A strong work ethic, and a collaborative spirit are the heart of our program. As students to leave our “house” this year (and every season) to bright futures, I can only wonder how time will frame the lens of their memories on this stag. Each and every student I have had the “privilege to teach” will “live forever” in my heart. Thank you for supporting them, and the work we do here. “Bring on Tomorrow!”

We invite you to experience tonight’s performance with an open mind, joyful heart, and imaginative spirit.

Welcome to P.A - High School of the Performing Arts!
