Show Choir

 

Show Choir Academy is the advanced program of the choir department, and is an audition-based course. Students are expected to have prior experience and comprehensive work with vocal training and choreography execution. Show Choir is a program that requires the students to be able to both sing and dance simultaneously with efficiency and confidence. Public appearances are required and occur throughout the entire school year as well as regional competitions. After school rehearsals are a requirement for this program in order to have proper preparation for performances. Prior experience in choir and dance are required. In this course, advanced vocal training will be provided as well as ‘story-driven’ choreography. Show Choir will also be required to participate in the spring musical production that is put on by the whole performing arts department. Professionalism is strongly encouraged as it is a central key component of this course. Leadership opportunities available.

 

Choir

 

Choir Academy is the beginning/intermediate course of the choir department Students will learn how to properly utilize their voice (breath, articulate, pitch, etc), read music (sight reading & music theory), hold harmonies, and master musical theater movement. This course is built to train students who would like to participate in the show choir advanced program, and require further training to be appropriately prepared. This course is a pre-requisite to being accepted into show choir. Prerequisite can be optional based on instructor review of students experience and also student audition. The students in this course have the option to perform in both the fall & spring concerts (not required), but are strongly encouraged to participate for experience and growth purposes.

 

Dance Academy

 

Beginning/Intermediate Dance Academy is the beginning/intermediate course of the dance department. Students will learn how to properly utilize their bodies in order to execute different kinesthetic shapes. Students will be educated in all dance genres, and the foundational basics of tap, jazz, lyrical, ballet, and hip hop. This course is built to train students who would like to participate in the advanced dance/dance team program. This course is a pre-requisite to being accepted into advanced dance/dance team. Prerequisite can be optional based on instructor review of students experience and also student audition. The students in this course have the option to perform in both the fall & spring concerts (not required), but are strongly encouraged to participate for experience and growth purposes.

 

Advanced Dance/Dance Team

 

Advanced Dance Academy and Dance Team are both the advanced programs of the dance department., and is an audition-based course. Students are expected to have prior experience and comprehensive work with dance training and performances. Advanced Dance/Dance Team students are required to efficiently and effortlessly perform all styles/genres of dance (tap, jazz, ballet, modern, hip hop). Public appearances are required of dance team as well as regional/national competitions, and occur throughout the entire school year. After school rehearsals are a requirement for this program in order to have proper preparation for performances. Prior experiences in beginning/intermediate dance levels are required. Prior experience in developing well thought out and purpose-driven choreography are required as well. In this course, advanced dance techniques and artistry will be provided in order to challenge and encourage growth in new creatively expressive avenues. Choreography development training will also be provided to help the dancer develop their artistic connections to musical content with a higher level of thinking and approach.
