Dear Audience,
We are here, and so are you. (And isn't that wonderful?!?) What more could we ask? It really couldn't get better than this... a chance to do what we love and share it with a live audience in a year that everything has had to go virtual, zoomed, and disconnected--here we are! What a beautiful way to celebrate the adaptability and connecting force of the theatre: under this beautiful sky, with some of the most talented, grounded, and passionate students I've ever known.
It has been 19 months since we've had an opening night of a show, and a full 2 years since we've been able to do a spring musical. The level of gratitude I have for the opportunity to present OKLAHOMA! this weekend is difficult to express. These students truly are Warriors. They have rolled with every punch that this past year has served them, and keep standing, looking the pandemic square in the face, and earnestly stating "Art will find a way."
My hope with this production is to take the classic and beloved OKLAHOMA! and make it a bit more accessible and relevant to our 2021 world. The themes of OKLAHOMA! are of building (or re-building) a community, bridging the divides that exist in society, and facing the future with a defiant hope (because the land we belong to is grand)... it's a story not too far from our own current realities.
You're doing fine. We're doing fine... and through the arts, and moments like these when we can gather and enjoy shared experiences, we will heal... OK!
Please keep supporting the arts in our schools! Our students need creative outlets of expression now more than ever!
All my love and gratitude,
Cheers!
