Wayzata High

 Director's Notes

I try to refrain from using the term ‘zany’ as a description whenever possible. I feel that it has become overused in today’s society, and have found that it is often reserved for poorly designed children’s attractions or activities. I don’t like the word zany one bit. But despite my past prejudices against this word, today I will be hopping off my high horse as I have come to terms with the fact that the unusual verb was never so accurately descriptive as it is here. This hilariously written one act play surrounds a customer service representative, a tech support line, an unassuming customer, and a broken mixer. This idiosyncratic gem is sure to leave you laughing (and maybe a little exasperated). I have thoroughly enjoyed working with this cast, and I am so impressed with their perseverance after the phase ‘let’s run that again’ was uttered possibly one too many times. We hope that you thoroughly enjoy our zany production of Appliance Plus.

Hello! I would like to start by thanking you for taking the time to celebrate all the work done on these shows. Everyone involved was dedicated to making sure this project was an amazing experience for those who were participating, and the viewers. The show “Knock Knock?” was written by Kayla Marie Mielke. It is a show about three students who find themselves caught up in an unexpected revenge plot led by a mysterious figure. I have had such an great time directing this piece and would like to give a special thanks to my cast who have put their hearts and souls into the show, the tech crew for making everything happen (especially over Zoom!), the head directors: Grant Sorenson, Sandra Struthers, and Mrs. Gerber for dedicating their time to organize these shows. And of course Kayla, for creating such a spectacular piece. Thanks again for coming, and enjoy the show!

This show has been such a pleasure to work on! Hello, Operator? was written by Zoe Nisam and follows the upbeat and hardworking Alma Wood through her experience as a telephone operator in 1920s Boston. Throughout her journey, she finds herself and learns her true worth. This heartwarming show demonstrates the importance of kindness towards others and self empowerment. I would like to thank my amazing cast for putting in so much work on this show and being excited and flexible every day! We had the extra challenge of having to switch our leading lady from Natalie Tran to Sammi Bergren at the last minute, and I’d just like to especially thank Natalie for her hard work throughout the process, as well as Sammi for being so willing to step in. I’d also like to thank the spectacular tech crew. This show would be impossible to pull off without you. Finally, I’d like to thank the adult directing team for all their support throughout this process, and Zoe Nisam for giving us such a lovely script to work with. Thank you all so much for tuning in to watch the One Acts, I hope you enjoy watching this show as much as I loved working on it!

Broccoli Cheddar soup is one of those foods that always carries a memory with it. Maybe it’s that one winter day you spent with Grandma, slaving over that soup recipe until she deemed it perfect, even though you thought it was just fine the first time. Maybe, it’s that comfort food that somehow always makes your day 10x better. Or maybe, it’s your go-to order on a first date. Whatever it is, it can warm a persons heart. I think that same feeling will fill your soul as you view this production. This heartfelt show portrays two boys nervously preparing for a date with the help of their sisters. Though everything may not go according to plan, each of them learns a very valuable lesson. This cast has been an absolute joy to work with and the work they have put into this show has been extraordinary. Through all the chaos, they have managed to find a way to keep me smiling through every rehearsal and I hope they can put that same smile on your face. We hope you enjoy our heartwarming production of Broccoli Cheddar.
