
Who He Is ~
Stephen Flaherty was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1960. When he was twelve, he knew he wanted to write musicals and composed his first score by the age of 14. He most often works in collaboration with Lynn Ahrens, a lyricist/book writer.
He is a two-time Tony award winner for Best Original Score (Ragtime) and Best Revival of a Musical (Once on Ths Island). In 2015, he won a Lifetime Achievement award and was inducted into the Theater Hall of Fame.
How You Know Him ~
If you're a 90s cartoon buff, you've seen the 20th Century Fox film Anastasia. Flaherty is the score composer for this amazing 1997 film and its stage adaptation in 2016.
In addition to Anastasia and its straight to VHS sequel Bartok the Magnificent, he is the award-winning composer for Once on this Island (1990; Broadway revival 2017), Ragtime (1998; Broadway revival 2009), and Seussical (2000; Broadway revival 2007).

In 1982, Flaherty graduated with a B.M. in Musical Composition from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music!
