From the Director:
It is easy for us to say this is a middle school production and then assume that audiences will be entertained and proud, no matter what. And that would be correct. But, the students in West Clermont Middle School's Drama Club were eager to go above and beyond the expectations of a "middle school production."
Perhaps this was a way of proving to themselves--and you--that they are no longer in elementary school. Or, perhaps, it was pre-teen dramaticisms manifesting into acceptable showmanship skills.
But I think that the most likely reason of all may have been that our hearts have been two sizes too small...
We were hurting. To all who missed being in the schools, to all who missed performing for live audiences, to all who missed attending live shows, we are right there with you. Our hearts still ache. We are still healing, still growing.
In three years, we have witnessed infrastructures dismantle and reorganize, perhaps none moreso than in-person instruction and live entertainment. And we would be remiss to not acknowledge the fact that some of our 8th graders in this performance were cast in the 2020 spring musical, Madagascar, and made it through two months of rehearsals before they sadly lost their chances to perform.
So when we learned live performances were on again for our current school year, I knew we had to produce Seussical Jr.
Our students needed color, they needed to let their imaginations run rampant and to embrace their unique and incredible Thinks! But, most importantly, we needed Horton the Elephant.
The cast and crew of Seussical Jr. wish to remind you that small acts of kindness can have an elephant-sized impact.
Our theater and our Drama Club, like our school, encourages students to "be leaders, help create successes for others, and ask questions." We are a safe space--inspiring creativity and advocating open mindedness--and we care deeply for every person involved--no matter how small.
Be kind to others. You are not alone in the universe; you are a huge part of it.
