Hans Christian Andersen: Online Edition - May 14 - May 16, 2021

Windsor Knolls Middle School

 End Notes

Note from the Director

This has been a year with many missed moments, but I'm thankful that we were able to come together and produce this show! I have to start with a huge thank you to Mrs. Lynch, whose "let's do a musical" attitude, got us to this point! We picked a show, prepped our cast and crew, and then jumped onto our stage that, even when virtual, welcomed us back with open arms. Heading into this experience, I openly shared with my team and my students that I was 85% sure about how this would come toogether, and the other 15% would be theatre magic!

Luckily, that magic kicked in, and we have this delightful show to present to our audience! Hans Christian Andersen takes us to Copenhagen in the 1800s, where Christian is a young author, unsure of his ability, but swimming in the stories of his heart and mind. While the transition to a new school starts off tough, his parents and some new friends help him find the swan within, as he presents a finished story to the king. This whimsical, coming-of-age tale proved to be a fun story for our cast to tell.

To my cast, thank you for jumping into the unknown with me and sharing your talents with myself, Mrs. Lynch, Mrs. Puderbaugh, and our audience.

To my crew, you were our steady beat and helped create the magic of our show.

To my audience, please recieve this show as a gift of light during a moment of fog.

To my husband, thank you for your unwavering support during show season.

All my love,

Mrs. Martinez-Trawick

Note from the Assistant Director

Like many of us, I've logged on to my fair share of Google Meets, Zooms, and FaceTimes over the past 14 months. Some had been with friends nearby, a few with a friend in Istanbul, some with my mom 45 minutes away, and, of course, virtual classrooms full of students, working together to create an online community.

But, I very distinctly remember our first rehearsal of Hans Christian Andersen, seeing familiar faces from the hallways of WKMS and meeting other students for the first time. My heart swelled to experience that "theatre magic" that Mrs. Martinez-Trawick described once again. It was a much-needed warmth and joy after a long, cold winter. It's thanks to Mrs. Martinez-Trawick's dedication and creative leadership that we all got to experience that warmth once again. Mrs. M-T, you're extraordinary. Mrs. Puderbaugh, thank you for your love for the students and the arts, and always leaving everyone with a smile. Mr. Lynch, thank you for the hours spent mixing students' tracks with finesse and care.

To the cast & crew: you're "wonderful, wonderful"! You've all worked so enthusiastically under such weird circumstances, and I'm so proud of all of you.

Parents and friends of the show: thank you for unwavering love and support of our students and the arts.

Yours,

Mrs. Lynch
