Rent - August 08 - August 17, 2014

Joliet Drama Guild

 End Notes

Notes from the Director:

When RENT premiered on Broadway in 1996, no one could have expected the hit it would become. RENT got rid of the typical, hum drum musical. Here was a show in which the characters didn't win in the end. They suffer, they have terrible flaws and sometimes, they die. The difference between RENT and the musicals of old: It was real. It showed life at its essence: raw.

Jonathan Larson never lived to see his show become a success. He passed away suddenly the night before the show opened in previews. But RENT is the legacy he left behind and for that we are forever greatful.

It is an absolute dream come true to direct RENT. Being the show that originally got me involved in theatre, I am truly blessed to get to direct this show. I also could not have done it with my amazing staff.

Lori - Thank you for being my legs. My show wouldn't flow or have as many gut wrenching moments if not for your beautiful movement.

Beth and Stephen - Thank you for being my ears. For helping this amazingly talented cast sound so damned good. It has been an honor.

Diana - Thank you for being able to read my mind and build the perfect set for this show. You blew me away.

To the Cast: You guys are amazing. I love each and every one of you. You have brought this show to life and I can't tell you how proud I am of you.

To Nicki, Tammy, Zach and most especially, Clay - Thank you for supporting me through the years and for helping me hone my craft. While I have much to learn still, I wouldn't be nearly as far without you.

And finally, the audience. Thank you for coming and supporting the arts. Your prescence here tonight would make Jonathan Larson very happy. Thank you all and enjoy the show.

And, as always, Thank you Jonathan Larson.
