Our Scholarships
Florence Slack Memorial Scholarship “Flo” as we all loved to call her, was Secretary to the Director of Pupil Services. Florence passed away on August 25, 1999 after 26 years of dedicated service to the Montgomery Township schools and our union. She was a staunch supporter of the MTEA (who served on many committees), was a child advocate for our special education students, and a friend to many of us.
John Warms Memorial Scholarship John, who passed away in June 2009, was a resident of Skillman for 36 years. Prior to his 32-year career with the New Jersey Education Association as a field representative, negotiator and teacher rights case manager, he was a teacher at Winfield Park and Piscataway school systems. John helped develop special national projects such as "Read Across America" with the National Education Association. He also served on the N.J. State Committee that established Drug Free School Zones. In Montgomery Township, John was a husband to Peg, father to Annie, Peter, and Chris (all MHS graduates). He also coached soccer and baseball, was president of the MHS Booster Club, a 3-term member of the Township Committee, mayor, and loyal supporter of the MTEA.
Heather Evarts Memorial Scholarship The Montgomery Band Parents honor Heather Evarts, a young woman who graduated from Montgomery High School. She loved the band. She exemplified all the dedication and passion for music that successful musical groups rely on. Sadly, Heather’s life came to an abrupt end in an automobile accident the summer after her graduation. The Montgomery Band Parents honor Heather’s memory with a continuing scholarship in her name.
Nicola Cox Memorial Scholarship The Montgomery Band Parents honor Nicola Cox, who graduated from Montgomery High School in 2003. During her time as a high school student, she embraced the band program as a second family and gave much of herself to it through her leadership and love of music. Nicola loved the band and the band loved her. Nicola was lost in a tragic car accident the summer after her high school graduation. Her parents endowed a scholarship for 10 years in her memory to be given to a band senior that exemplifies the same passion and love for band. The Montgomery High School Band Parents are honored to continue supporting that scholarship in her name.
MTEA Equity Award The Montgomery Township Education Association presents this award to a graduating senior who has shown exceptional committment to equity, social justice, and activism, and has made a positive impact on the MHS community.
