STORY
Young Candide grows up in Westphalia under the watchful eye of his guardians, the Baron and Baroness. But when he falls in love with their daughter, Cunegonde, he is banished. Throughout his wanderings, Candide makes and loses many friends, including the optimistic Dr. Pangloss, who insists at every terrible turn that it is still “the best of all possible worlds!” Despite numerous hardships, Candide travels from Portugal to Uruguay and back to Europe again, all the while hoping to be reunited with his lost love.
