Mary Poppins Jr. - March 05 - March 07, 2020

NFHS Theatre Department

 Director's Note

Back when I was in elementary school, I received a book one Christmas called “Mary Poppins” and on the cover was a photo of Julie Andrews holding her umbrella, facing it as if she were having a conversation. Well, I can’t tell you how excited I was to open the book to discover the now-famous word “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” along with the film’s story! My classmates did not know what to make of this word until the film was released a few months later. I was very proud to be the first “on my block” to know anything about Mary Poppins. Her character became a big part of my life along with every song that I can still sing by heart! Fast forward to 2019. I was honored and proud to be a part of the professional stage production of “Mary Poppins” at City Springs Theatre playing the part of Miss Lark.  I learned that there was a larger world of Mary Poppins that I had yet discovered! Proud teacher moment when several of the Rising Stars students that you will see on stage today came to see the show!

I am honored to be the director of “Mary Poppins, Jr.”  I have a terrific trio of TAs, Mattie Hinckley, Haylee Wicks & Julia Vara, that have helped tremendously to get this show ready.  I cannot thank them enough for all the work they have done! I could not have asked for a better group of Rising Stars! Not only are these kids talented, but they are also very nice people. Thank you, parents! The efforts that they have put in every day shows a dedication that was innate in them long before they joined my class and I greatly appreciate this! Thank you, Drama & Choir Directors!

Our show has everything from the great music to the iconic characters that we all know and love.  But the best part is the message about family and what it takes to grow and find meaning in your life.  My hope is that after you see our show, you will not only exit singing the songs but also find out that “anything can happen if you let it!”

Thank you for coming!!
