Once Upon a Mattress - June 16 - June 25, 2023

Robertson County Players

 FROM THE DIRECTOR

I have loved Once Upon A Mattress ever since I saw a production on TV starring Carol Burnett and Ken Berry when I was a little girl.  A couple of years ago, I was approached about directing it to commmemorate the 50th anniversary of the production that was done at Springfield High School, directed by Corinne Balthrop.  I was a bit wary as I had never directed a musical, but I decided to accept the challenge and I’m so glad I did.  It has been a great experience and having Corinne at my side as consultant has been the icing on the cake.

There is so much talent in our community and they are all in this show.   It is a stellar cast that will blow your socks off.  Since I don’t do musicals, I needed a good music director and we had the best with Dr. Eric Wilson.  His talent and guidance have been above and beyond and we are so lucky to have him.

I can honestly say that I have loved working on this show and it is because of the cast and the staff that supported me: From our hard working producer, Rusty Riddle, to Paige Owens who had not done much with theater and proved to be invaluable to all of us.  My thanks also to Mala Bruce, Laura Beth Zimmer, Venessa Waller, Thom Wilson and I know I have left out someone.  You all made me look good and I am forever grateful.

I hope you enjoy watching this show as much as we enjoyed working on it.  It was a labor of love and I will miss being with these fabulous people.  They all have part of my heart now.
