Cabaret & Cabernet - April 14

Saginaw Choral Society

 Meet THe Cast

Rachelle Austin, soprano - Rachelle met her husband, Brad Fergin, while a student at SVSU, where she now teaches. We are so glad to have them return to Saginaw after living in Chicago for several years while Rachelle completed her Masters Degree in Voice Performance. They have an adorable son, Liam, who is often seen scurrying around the rehearsal room, Rachelle close behind. Peels of laughter give us a clue there will be another singer in the family!

Stephanie Bale, alto - In 3rd grade, Stephanie realized that fairy tales weren’t actually real, and decided she wanted to be an actor and a singer when she grew up. She was quite upset when she outgrew the role of Annie, her childhood dream! Nowadays, Don’t Rain On My Parade pumps her up when she needs it, and when she wants to relax a bit, traveling with her close family or sketching fantastical whimsical characters and scenes does the trick!

Bradley Fergin, baritone - In addition to his teaching duties at SASA, Brad recently sang the part of Bob Cratchit in the Choral Society’s production of Scrooge. Tonight he is sharing the stage with his wife Rachelle, who also recently appeared with the Choral Society as soloist in the Lord Nelson Mass. Brad’s favorite pastime is to play with his cuter-than-cute look-alike son, Liam, or to experiment with preparing scrumptious meals in his smoker.

Betty Mayer, alto- One half of the singing Mayers, Betty is singing with hubby John tonight. Betty remembers going to The Sound of Music in the Court Theater with her parents. The power went out so they didn’t get to see the end! Good thing she already knew it! Betty attended and now teaches at Saginaw Twp. Schools. A fun day for Betty is spent with family, especially her grandchild, soon to be grandchildren, in the warm backyard or at the Children’s Zoo.

John Mayer, tenor- The other half of the singing Mayers, John fell in love with Yul Brynner in The King and I while visiting his aunt in Chicago. John spent summers swimming, playing baseball, and bike riding and in high school traveled to Scandinavia singing with the Blue Lake International Choir. Like his wife Betty, John’s favorite pastime is to relax with his family, in particular with his granddaughter Nora while they await Nora’s baby sister to arrive soon.

Tiara Phillips, alto - Tiara’s best friend is her Mother. (Awww!) Together, they love marathon movie sessions of Avatar the Last Airbender or The Lord of the Rings Trilogy. Tiara grew up outside Okemos and spent her summers with friends making vegan baked goods, playing the ukulele, and painting each other’s faces with chocolate! She would love to sing with a professional choir someday and become involved in community organizations that help families.
