The Sound of Music - April 29 - May 07, 2023

St. Mary's Drama Guild

 End Notes

Welcome back! We have dearly missed performing for you for these three long years. When we last left you, we were in the last weeks of blocking “Seussical the Musical”, which was shaping up to be a wonderful performance. The world had other plans and we were left to the mercy of guidelines, roadblocks, and recommendations for three years. During that time, we had been holding onto the rights to both “The Sound of Music” and “Suessical” in the hopes that we could get back to performing them for you. That day has come. We are so excited to be back performing for you, and we are sure this will be a showstopping performance that you will remember for years to come.

As I said, we secured the rights to this show around January 2020 and were set to reveal that information to you on the playbill for Seussical the Musical. This was a show that the St. Mary’s Drama Guild had been looking to stage for many years. We had requested the rights every year since 2014 and had been denied each year until 2020.

It is a timeless story adapted from the true life of Maria Augusta Trapp and the von Trapp Family singers by Howard Linsay and Russel Crouse and given musical life by the famous duo, Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II. It is a tale that is sure to touch the heart of all who perform and view it. This is a tale of love, self-discovery, bravery, and hope.

This is truly a star-studded cast and they have worked very hard to put this show together. From the moment we began practicing, the children started to gel together well with each other and with Paul (Captain Von Trapp) and Elöise (Maria). I am so proud of them and all of their hard work. They put in long hours in and out of the gym, lower church, and at home; working on harmonies, choreography, and running their lines. It has been a joy to work with them.

I hope you enjoy this production that has been long overdue for our stage. Thank you for your patience, patronage, and support.

Theatrically Yours,

Ashley Gleason
Director of the Board
St. Mary’s Drama Guild
