Faith Healer -

The Sherman Players

 President's Note

Wow! We are already halfway through our season, and the first hint of autumn is in the air. The Sherman Players have been very busy this summer, not just with a wonderful production of Much Ado About Nothing, but also with two staged readings, the continued development of new events and programs, and the addition of new board members, Alexa Wild and Lizzy Booth.

Faith Healer, directed by Kyle Minor and produced by Robin Frome, is the perfect way to mark the change of seasons. Moving from the lighthearted romance of Shakespeare as we frolicked in the long daylight of summer, we now embrace the shorter days ahead with the darker themes beautifully examined in the poignant prose of Brian Friel. This play will make you think.

Though the days may be shorter, our efforts to grow our contributions to the theatre community move forward unabated. Cold Lemonade, our monthly program that allows emerging playwrights to test out their work with impromptu readings, has officially fostered three staged readings of completed works. We are so happy to nurture new works from our local authors. Five Minute theatre, our monthly scene study group, is also supporting local talent, allowing actors new and practiced, to test out monologues and scenes in a fun and friendly setting. Playhouse Karaoke continues to be a hit, so if you’re up to trying out a song under the lights of the Sherman Playhouse stage, then come on down. Coming soon, we are planning a film series, and some additional programs for performers in the region.

All of these wonderful events are the result of the hard work and passion of this amazing board. Each one contributes time, effort, creativity, and enthusiasm for this nearly 100-year-old community theatre. We simply couldn’t exist without their efforts, and I am lucky to be surrounded by such a talented group of people.

We are thrilled to have you in our audience, and we hope you come back again and again. Your support is essential to our survival, of course, but most of all, we are grateful that you join us in our passion for live theatre. Without you, we shout into the wind. It is the sound of your response that makes our work complete.

Thank you for being here,

Missy Alexander
